On crossroads is a series of 70 drawings that deal with a man’s voyage through life, hanging on a cross.
The cross is a symbol for everything you experience and carry with you through life. I could be showing my own life as it was made for my 60 years anniversary and shown in gallery Ófeigur in Iceland and Haapsalu Linnagallery in Estonia in the year 2007.
MORE ABOUT THE SERIES
I grew up during the cold war. That was not too difficult to understand. People, looking just like us, but with different ideas were fighting for power and world domination. Today people go to war because God tells them to! This is really difficult to understand! The Christian president of the strongest world power and his little Christian friends in Europe have said they went to war because God told them to! And on the other side of the front line are Muslims fighting for their God! This is much more complicated than the cold war! What is God? Does He exist? If so, what does He or She look like? Throughout history, many wars have been fought because, supposedly, God asked for it — even if nobody could actually prove Him asking for war. These drawings were made as my statement about this and other things in our world today that I don’t like and feel the need to criticize... And then there are some that are just plain funny cartoons! The idea to use a Man on a Cross has nothing to do with a certain man that was crucified a long time ago; and anyway, he was not the only one — during his time hundreds of thousands of men where executed in this manner. Utilizing a Man on a Cross may be a bit of a PR-trick to get attention, but I must admit that I have always been rather curious about crucifixions! Some have even said that this series is an illustration of a man’s life... Which is actually my own life! Whatever, please try to enjoy, think and learn. Siggi
